Li is qualification for Westwood Open; First major berth since 2022

Li Westwood will start his first major championship in three years, when he will tease it at the open championship in Royal Portrash, Northern Ireland later this month.

The 52 -year -old Englishman was a medalist in his final qualifying group on Tuesday at the Dandonald Link in Scotland, one of the four sites where five spots were on the open ground.

Westwood has never won a major, but owns the 19 top -10s, including a runner -up finish and a T4 placement in 2010, which was last played in the Royal Portrash in 2019.

Now with Live Golf, Westwood is not eligible for any head since finishing 34th in the Open Championship in 2022.

On Tuesday at the Par-72 Dandonald link, Westwood shot a round of 70 and 67, with 36 holes in 7. He joined Scotland’s Daniel Young, Spaniel Hidalgo, Sweden’s Jesper Sandborg and Scottish Amateur Conner Graham, who defeated the country’s Paul O’Hara in a playoffs for the fifth and final place.

Westwood was not the only live golfer to achieve success on Tuesday. Royal Sinak Ports and West Lancashire medal winners were also of Breakayway League.

South Africa’s Dean Burns will play in his fourth open championship in five years. At the Royal Sinak ports, 64 of his second round took him to 10 under 10, and was followed by the British Nathan Kimsi, Curtis Nypes and Amateur Sebastian cave as well as John Axlesen at the fifth place of Denmark.

In West Lancashire, Australian Lucas Herbert went 69–67 for Herbert 8 under 69–67, one stroke better than Sampson Zheng of China and two above the English George Bloor. A 4 -for -2 playoff set the last two available berths, which went to Finland’s Oliver Lindel and Estonian amateur Richard Teder.

The final final qualifying site was Bernham and Bero. South Africa’s Justin Walters 9 was a medalist, followed by Denmark’s Jacob Skove Olesen and a British trio: Harry Hall, Amateur Fraser Jones and OJ Fareel. Another live golfer, Aniran Lahiri of India, missed just one stroke in the sixth place.
