Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-Baater Kusal Mendis Indian Premier League (IPL) will replace Jose Butler in Gujarat Titans Squad for 2025 playoffs. Butler would not be available for the playoff as he was selected to play for England’s ODI team in the Home Series against the West Indies, which begins on 29 May. IPL playoffs begin on the same day. Mendis was in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with Quetta Gladiators till last week, playing as his wicketkeeper-better. He was last played for him on 7 May. But he will not travel to Pakistan for the remainder of PSL due to alleged security concerns, and now according to the IPL, a league, in which he has never appeared before, has been published to play in the IPL.
GT has two other wicketkeeping options in his squad, Anuj Rawat and Kumar Kushagra. However, Mendis PSL has been good for gladiators in 2025, scoring 143 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 168.
T20 has played 78 matches for Sri Lanka in Mendis, with 1920 runs on an average with a strike rate of 25.60 and 131.68, wicketkeeper/batter also has 15 half -centuries for his name in T20I.
According to ESPNCRICINFO, the England Cricket Board (ECB) had provided the No-Objection Certificate (NOCS) to all its players participating in the IPL by 25 May, the original date of the IPL 2025 final.
Butler has scored 500 runs in 11 innings for GT in the ongoing IPL, an average of the batsman’s an average of 71.43 and the strike rate is 163.93. GT is currently topped the points table, with eight winning and three defeats in 11 matches.
His upcoming struggle will be held on 18 May against the Delhi capitals at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, New Delhi.
