Kohli and Sehwag Search Franchisee in Delhi Premier League 2025 Auction

In India, legacies often walk hand-in-hand with expectations. Similar is the case in cricket. And when the surnames are Kohli and Sehwag, the spotlight tends to arrive to put pressure. On Sunday evening at the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 mega auction, two such familiar names found takers, boosting excitement in the league.

Virat Kohli’s nephew to play under Badoni

Virat Kohli’s nephew, Aryaveer, was snapped up by South Delhi Superstarz for ₹1 lakh. A 15-year-old leg-spinner, Aryaveer is being coached by Rajkumar Sharma,the same mentor who once nurtured Virat himself. Rajkumar was present at the auction as well.

While Aryaveer hasn’t yet played for the Delhi state team, his inclusion in the DPL could shape him in an even better way. While the spotlight will certainly be on him, Aryaveer will play under Ayush Badoni, who led the franchise to the final last season.

Missed opportunity for one Sehwag, delight for other

Meanwhile, Aaryavir Sehwag, son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, sparked a mini bidding war before being picked up by Central Delhi Kings for a great sum of ₹8 lakh.

The 17-year-old top-order batter has been making waves in junior cricket, particularly after his blistering 297 in the Cooch Behar Trophy. Unlike his younger brother Vedant Sehwag, who went unsold in the auction, Aaryavir now has the chance to play in Delhi’s most competitive league.

Before his son sparked a budding war, Sehwag attended the event and even waxed lyrical about the tournament. “I’m really looking forward to this season. It’s a great opportunity for players to shine on a big stage. With selectors and fans watching closely—not just from India, but internationally as well—this league gives a chance to the players to make a mark. We saw some incredible cricket last year, and I’m sure this season will be even more exciting,” Sehwag said at the event.
