Knight Riders defeated Capital for ‘Jail Premier League’. Video




In a unique initiative to promote the physical and mental health of the prisoners, the Jail Premier League was held at Mathura Jail on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The cricket tournament was held within the jail premises, and several prisoners participated in the event. According to the Jail Superintendent, Anunshuman Garg, the main objective of organizing the Jail Premier League was to give some moments of independence to the prisoners in the “walls” of the prison.

“Its purpose is that in today’s walls, a feeling of freedom will be found in a few moments. It is not just a final match, it is a victory of hope, the race of faith. The ground is the same, but the players have been replaced – today every run, every cat, every victory … is an attempt to prove themselves”, the jail superintendent said.

The Jail Premier League began in April 2025, where eight teams of various barracks of Mathura Jail were formed among the prisoners. Each included four teams, each formed each, with a total of 12 league matches and two semi -final games were played between them. The final match of the tournament was played between Capital and Knight Riders, with Knight Riders victorious.

“The Jail Premier League competition was launched among the prisoners in April 2025. A total of 8 teams of various barracks of the jail have been formed in the said league. There were 4 teams in Group A and 4 teams in Group B. A total of 12 league matches and 2 semi -finals were played between them. The team of Knight Riders won”, said Anunshuman Garg.

A prisoner, Kaushal, was named as a match player and series players, while Pankaj and Bhura won the purple and orange cap respectively.
