“Dear cricket, give me one more chance”. This line has become synonymous to India batter Karun Nair. And it was a post that the 33-year-old made in 2022. Finally, much to his relief, his chance has come, after a stellar domestic season in all three formats, and post that, a few innings of note, in the IPL 2025.

He is now part of the India squad for the England tour, after Virat Kohli has retired; but before that will appear for India A, against England Lions. On Wednesday, DC put a tweet with Karun Nair training for the upcoming challenge, in India training kit. The caption of the tweet read, “Wearing the India on the helmet again.”

If one tracks down Karun’s Test record, he is only the second Indian in the format, to score a triple ton, that came against England in 2016. In all, he played six matches and went on to score 374 runs overall at an average of 62. He played his last in 2017, and since then has been trying to make a comeback.

Talking about his domestic record this season, in nine matches, he scored 863 runs at an average of 53.93 for Vidarbha, including four tons and two fifties. Apart from that, he was in a different league when it came to the LIST A games. He amassed 779 runs in 9 clashes, at an unprecedented average of 389, with five hundreds.

With this record, no wonder, when the opportunity came, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee had no qualms in backing the domestic veteran. In fact, for all you know, he could be a permanent member in the playing XI, in England Test series.
