“I am just waiting for a rest week, to enjoy some competition,” said the chefler. “It’s an easy week for us, and it’s fun. You get to bring your family. I really don’t know that it’s very fun.”
Sheffler equalized 19-underl for four rounds last year, defeating Sahith Thegla with three shots.
The course was at a distance of 7,213 yards last year, but it is known far and wide as a “second-shot golf course”, which means a where iron and approach plays are paramount.
“This is a very good test of the striking of the ball, it is a golf course,” the sheffer said. “You have found it to get it done in both ways. You have found the shots to hit. We are going to get some wind. You have to control the spin, control the trajectory.”
Out of the top 50 players in the world rankings, eight out of the top 10 and eight of 43 are set to compete, including Swedish stars Ludwig Aberj and Russell Henley, who won the previous signature programs this season (respectively genesis invitational and arnold pampering invitational).
Jordan Spith’s last victory came in a playoff in a playoffs against the Patrick Cantley. He is in the area at the exemption of a sponsor.
The Harbor Town Golf link will be closed for a restoration after the end of the tournament.
