Joao Peglo Score twice to help DC United and Skid vs Red Bulls

With the MLS Golden Boot winner Christian Bentake, Joao Peglo DC emerged as an unexpected hero for DC United, scored a brace in a 2–1 win over New York Red Bulls on New York Red Bulls on Saturday night at Harrison, NJ.

It was a long-awaited win as DC (2-4-3, 9 points) lost a four-match streak and finished eight-game runs without winning against New York, a skid that began in 2022.

In the Atlantic Cup rivalry matchup, DC defeated New York (3-3-3, 12 points) his first house this season in five matches this season.

The 23 -year -old Brazilian Winger, the target for Peglo, which was signed by Polish First Division Team Redomiaq Radom in December, was his first two at MLS.

In addition to nine minutes, they came late in the first half, after departing with a clear thigh injury in the 29th minute of Bentke. Bentke led MLS with 23 goals last year and five this season.

Peglo’s first goal came from DC keeper Luis Baraza on a goal kick assist. Peglo led a jumping ball behind a defender, ran down and removed a right-leg shot from the right to the right corner of the box.

Then in the 44th minute, Peglo fired a sensational pavement bicycle kick from the right side of the 6-yard box, tucking it in the top left corner. Aaron Herera assisted with the header for a 2–0 lead.

New York retaliated in the 57th minute. From a corner kick, Emil Fourberg sent a header to the entire box for Eric Maxim Chupo-Motor, who settled the pass with his chest and took the left leg shot to the top right corner, cutting the deficit into half.

After that, the best chance of Red Bulls came from a corner kick in the 84th minute. In a scuffle in the 6-yard box, Baraja took Turf to Turf to save both of them.

It was a satisfactory win for DC and coach Troy Lesseen, who played a role in the creation of the streak of Red Bulls against MLS rival for a long time, served as New York Assistant in 2022 and as its head coach for the next session.

This was the 91st regular-season MLS match in the series between two founding members of the league. No other pair of MLS teams have faced each other several times.
