Japanese baseball legend Shigio dies on Nagshima 89

Japanese Baseball Hall of Famer Shigio Nagashima, who spent more than three decades as a player and manager for Yomiyuri veterans, died on Tuesday. He was 89 years old.

The veterans said that Nagashima died of pneumonia at Tokyo Hospital.

Nagashima won an impressive 11 Japan Series Championship in his 17-year game career, which included nine directly from 1965–73.

Mr. Gaynts and Mr. Professional Baseball were named, Nagshima played in 2,186 games for the club and had a career. There were 305 batsmen, who hit 444 domestic runs, 418 doubles and 74 triples in 1,522 runs. He stole 190 locations and scored 1,270 runs.

Shortly after his retirement, he was named The Giant’s Manager. He played a role from 1975–80 and was fired, but returned as managers from 1993–2001, giving the veterans two championships in 1994 and 2000.

Los Angeles Dojers posted pictures of themselves with Nagshima, the star of the country’s largest current sports icon on Instagram, “May can rest your soul in peace.”
