
Ben Heli of Ireland lost a chance in a stage 10 win on Monday, but took over the yellow jersey of the Tour de France when he received some more valuable.
Heli took an edge during an extended breakway on Bustil Day and finished third for the Great Britain’s Simon Yets and Thymen Arsenman of the Netherlands.
Yates, now the winner of the three-time Tour de France stage, is 3 kilometers left at the final climb from Heli, which remains in a 165.3 km trek in the mountains from Anezet to Le Mont-Dor Pue D Sansi.
Heli still ended a 4 -minute deficit behind Slovenia’s overall race leader Tades Pogkar, which became the first rider from Ireland to catch the yellow jersey since Stephen Roshe in 1987, and just the fourth time.
Heli also won a hill stage 6 on Thursday after finishing Solo Breakway.
Pogakar finished ninth in the stage, ahead of Denmark’s rival Jonas Wingguard, to trail Heli for 29 seconds for the overall lead. Belgian Olympic champion Remco Encol is at third place in total, while Vingegaard ranks fourth.
Pogacar and Vingegaard have combined Tour Day France in each of the last five years.
The United States Matio Zorgenson is at the fifth position in total, while the country’s soldiers are at 22nd position as the race reaches the midway point.
After a day on Tuesday, the schedule will resume for Stage 11 of 158.8 km on Wednesday that will start and end in tooluz. The 21-step spectacle will end in Paris on 27 July.
