IPL 2025 – What makes Gujarat Titans the best batting unit this season?

It is a crunch time in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) and one of the biggest success stories this season is from Gujarat Titans. The 2022 champions have scored a great run in the tournament and while fast bowling has been a revelation, it is actually his batting unit that is cutting a cut over the rest in the competition. Sai Reformson, Jose Butler and Shubman Gill have been brilliantly consistent – scoring more than 450 runs at a scoring rate of 150+ in the tournament.
Scored big runs at the rate of lumps
Titans have scored more than 180 out of 8 of their 10 innings this season. They have crossed 200 five times – the most for any team in the tournament. The top order of Titans has been in pulsed form in the competition and all cylinders have been firing. The GT has the highest joint batting average (43.1) in this season, there is a yawning difference between them and number two on this count – Mumbai Indians – who has average an average of 35.7. Not only the Titans batsmen have scored big runs, but have done so at a rapid rate. His joint strike rate of 170.5 is the highest in the re -version. Punjab Kings are at number two with a joint rate of 163.3.
The Titans have adopted two -nimsic views with the bat this season – maximize the boundaries and reduce the dot balls. They have the best balls of 4.4 per limit (four or six) ratio and their dot ball percentage at 27.3% is also the lowest this season.
Perform a top notch by top 3 of GT
The top 3 of GT have been in great form and scored three-fourths of the team in this season. They have praised each other and shared the loot with their personal contribution from 24.5% to 26.6%. Sai Reformson tops the run-chart with 504 runs in 10 innings. Jose Butler is at number 3 in the run-table list with 470 runs this season and after that 465 has been collected by Shubman Gill. It is quite shocking that three of the most run-goldrs this season are of Titans. Only Suryakumar Yadav, with 475 runs, has a non-taunts batsman in the top 4, but has played an additional match in the tournament.
The GT Top 3 has 15 fifties between them (5 each) with a strike rate between 154 and 162. The Lucknow super veterans follow with a total of 12 half -centuries. The top 3 of Titans has a joint batting average of 57.6. The LSG is again at number two with an average of 39.2. Aiden Marcram, Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran have done a tremendous season for super veterans. The fact is that Sudarshan, Butler and Gill have beaten them and by some margin, the GT shows the talent of the top-order with the bat in the competition.
Here is another shocking figure – the combined batting average of the top 3 of GT is not only the highest for this season, but any version of the tournament has the highest number of for any IPL team! Only another team had a top 3 batting average of 50+ (RCB’s top 3 on average 2016). And just for records, the top 3 of this RCB team included Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers!
Taking it forward in middle overs
While the GT Top 3 dominates the run-scoring in the powerplay with an amazing average of 91.8 this season, they are actually in the middle overs. GT’s joint batting strike rate between 7-15 overs in the tournament is 165.2, which is not only the best of all teams for this season, but any version is the highest in this phase of sports for any IPL team in any version!
The next Kolkata Knight Riders in the list, who had a strike rate of 163 in the middle overs during their winning campaign in the previous season.
Amazing stability
The top 3 tournaments of GT have been unprecedentedly consistent in the tournament with Sudarson, Butler or Gill, who score fifty in every match for Titans. The joint failure rate of GT Top 3 in IPL 2025 is just 20% (6 joint failures in 30 innings) showing how conscious they are at the top of the order for Titans.
Mastery
Reformson, Gill and Butler’s trio have dominated both speed and spin this season. While the scoring rate of reforms is 152.3 vs. pace and 157.7 vs spin, Gill has scored at the rate of 160 vs. pace and 165 vs. Spin. Butler has rapidly taken the bowlers to a cleaner scoring in 173.3 per 100 delivery against him, while his strike rate against slow bowlers is 163.3.
Incidentally, all three are magnificent back-foot batsmen and have maximized the ‘bridge shot’ this season. Gill has scored 73 runs in just 30 delivery to play the bridge, while reformson has scored 88 runs in just 43 delivery with two dismissal while playing the shot. Butler has scored 82 runs in just 32 delivery at the rate of 256.3 with two dismissal while playing the bridge this season.
