IPL 2025 officially suspended by BCCI for a week

While IPL 2025 has been suspended, Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 has been transferred from Pakistan to Dubai.

The Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This has come after the increased border tension between India and Pakistan, currently in Loggerheads in the two countries. However, unlike the previous claims, the BCCI has temporarily suspended the tournament for only one week starting from 9 May.

This step of BCCI was always coming, especially after a sudden end that saw the PBKS vs. DC game in Dharmasala on 8 May, leaving for security reasons. Earlier, it seemed that BCCI would not organize the remaining 17 IPL 2025 matches before the India vs England Test series. Rumors said that the organization will chak the Asian calendar, especially the visit to Bangladesh and Asia Cup. However, with its move to stop the IPL for only one week, there is hope among fans that the cash-rich league will continue soon.

IPL suspension – a correct trick

IPL in a media advisor said:

The Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remaining Tata IPL 2025 running with immediate effect for a week. After comprehensive evaluation of the situation in consultation with relevant officers and stakeholders, further updates about the new schedule and venue of the tournament will be announced.

After the representation of most of the franchisees, the decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after appropriate consultation with all major stakeholders who expressed the concerns and feelings of their players, and also the views of the broadcasters, sponsors and fans; While BCCI repeats full faith in the strength and preparations of our armed forces, the board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders.

The recent upheaval of the IPL began when the Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians (MI) match was transferred from Hawamsala to Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium due to the airsplain shutdown. Despite no direct threat to the IPL places, the stressful atmosphere motivated foreign players to express concern and assure the BCCI and the Government of India. Australian players spoke to their cricket board continuously after the sudden end of the Dharamsala game.

As the situation increased, the IPL was eventually suspended. In particular, Gujarat Titans (for their Clash vs. DC) and Mumbai Indians had already started transferring to Delhi and Ahmedabad before the announcement of suspension. Now, it is not confirmed when and if the IPL 2025 will continue. Since Indo-Pak tension is currently an ongoing event, BCCI is likely to take calls following government orders.

IPL franchisees are taking active steps to ensure safe return of players and assistant employees, with at least three teams arrange for chartered flights. According to the Indian Express, there are detailed plans for the convenience of a safe departure. An official of a franchise mentioned that if players from other teams want to join, they also facilitate arrangements that are guidance pending with BCCI.
