Indirect excavation in Gautam Gambhir? Sunil Gavaskar commented explosive KKR: “Shreyas Iyer did not do …”

Batter Sunil Gavaskar of Legendary India feels that Shreyas Iyer did not get enough credit for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) title. Despite leading KKR for his third IPL title, Shreyas was released by KKR before the IPL 2025 mega auction, where he was picked up by Punjab Kings (PBK). KKR’s success was largely attributed to Mentor Gautam Gambhir, but Gavaskar feels that it is the captain who deserves more credit than someone sitting in the dugout. Apart from his captaincy, Shreyas scored 351 runs in 14 innings at an average of 39 and with two fifties.
Gavaskar said in Star Sports, “He did not get the credit for the IPL victory in the last season.
This year, under Shreyas, PBK is on the verge of qualifying for playoffs. The team last ended in the top four in 2014, eventually lost to KKR in the final.
Gavaskar was happy to see everyone praising PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting, praising all this season.
“Look, this year they are getting proper credit. No one is giving all the credit to Ricky Ponting,” he said.
Sris was obtained by PBKS for Rs 26.75 crore in last year’s mega auction. So far, Iyer has paid for PBKS to break his bank – the right -handed batsman has scored an average of 405 runs in 11 matches at 50.63, including four fifties.
As a captain, and after Ricky Ponting in Dugout as his head coach, Iyer is stunning and active in his leadership, resulting in 15 points in the PBKS points table. The side needs two winning of its three remaining games to seal one place in the playoffs for the first time after the 2014 IPL.
Iyer and coach Ponting first worked together at Delhi Capital, where they managed to enter the playoffs in the 2019 season before the runner-up in the 2020 edition. Now PBKs re-involved in set-up, the Iyer-Putting partnership has revived the fate of the side in such a fabulous way that they are now on the verge of entering the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade.
