‘India should not play Pakistan even in ICC events …’

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday called for a complete stay with Pakistan on any platform including the Asia Cup and ICC events after Pahalgam Terror Attack. At an ABP program, Gambhir said that the national team should not play staunch rivals until the end of terrorism crosses the border. India has not played the entire series against Pakistan since 2007 due to tense relations between the two countries. Gambhir said that they only play each other in multi-team events and even it should be closed.
When asked about the future of Indo-Pak cricket in the current environment, Gambhir said, “My personal answer is not at all. All this (cross-border terrorism) should be nothing between India and Pakistan till then.”
In a terrorist attack on 22 April in Pahalgam city of South Kashmir, 26 people, most of the tourists were closed.
Responding to the horrific incident, India announced several measures against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty, crossing the only land border in the attic and downgrating diplomatic relations in view of cross -border links for the attack.
“Finally it is a government call as to whether we play them or not. I have also said before, no cricket match or Bollywood or any other conversation is not more important than the lives of Indian soldiers and Indian citizens,” Gambhir said.
“Matches will continue, movies will be made, singers will continue to perform, but nothing comes close to losing a loved one in your family.” This year, when asked about India to play Pakistan in the Asia Cup or T20 World Cup, Gambhir put on the BCCI and the government on the BCCI and the government the next year to co-condemn the next year.
“It’s not on me, it is for BCCI and more importantly, the government is to decide whether we should play them or not.
“Whatever decisions they make, we should be absolutely fine with it and not politicized.” Recently in the Champions Trophy, India played all their games in Dubai and did not host the country Pakistan due to security concerns.
As part of an agreement between BCCI, Pakistan Cricket Board and ICC, the All India-Pakistan matches in ICC events will be played in a neutral country by 2027 cycles.
