The ICC announced on Tuesday that India has been fined five percent of its match fee for maintaining a slow rate against Sri Lanka in the women’s three-series openers in Colombo. India defeated host Sri Lanka by nine wickets at the Rain-Tronned Series Opener at R Premdasa International Stadium on Sunday. The Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referee’s Vanessa de Silva approved after India, when the time allowance was given to be less than the target after taking into account the time allowance. The ICC release said, “According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players and players aid personnel, which belongs to minimum over-rate offenses, players are fined five percent of their match fee, which fails to bowl in the allotted time.”

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur convicted the crime and accepted the proposed approval, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires were accused by Anna Harris and Nimli Perera, third umpire Lyndon Haniebal and fourth umpire Dadunu de Silva.
