India expands dominance in white-ball formats, maintains the top position in Odis, T20I

India retained its top position in ODI and T20I to increase their dominance in white-ball formats, but slipped a place for fourth place in the test format, with Australia the supreme rule in the latest ICC annual men rankings updated on Monday. The latest ranking rates were played at 100 percent from May 2024 and 50 percent in the last two years. In the ODI rankings, the 2023 World Cup finalist India has strengthened its hold on the top of a winning ICC Champions Trophy campaign, which has improved their rating points from 122 to 124.

The second-place Champions Trophy is runner-up in New Zealand, who defeat their trans-rivals Australia, who now occupy third place.

Sri Lanka, who enjoyed an excellent run at home in recent months, including the winning win against India and Australia, is fourth after getting five rating points, in this process Pakistan (fifth with a point of one point) and South Africa (sixth with loss of four points).

Afghanistan also climbed the ladder-after a four-point improvement, she moved to seventh place-at the expense of the East World Champion England, who fell to the eighth position after leaving four points.

Meanwhile, the West Indies reached the ninth position after scoring five points to cross Bangladesh, which fell to 10th position with a decline of four points.

India boss smallest format

In T20Is, the current world champion India topped the top, although their lead over Australia in second place has gained 10 to nine points.

For the first time, the annual update features 100 teams in the Global T20I rankings, including updated list in the last three years, which have played minimum eight T20I in the last three years.

The original global T20I ranking was launched in 2019 and consisted of 80 sides.

The 2022 editions sit at number three at four, five and six respectively with champions England, New Zealand, West Indies and South Africa.

Sri Lanka’s boom continues in the shortest format of the game after overtaking Asian rivals Pakistan (8), now ranked seventh in the ranking. Bangladesh and Afghanistan follow their fellow Asian teams at the ninth and 10th places respectively.

Ireland also showed improvement, swaping the spot with Zimbabwe to sit in the 11th rank.

Australia Rules Test

The World Test Championship holders ruled Australia, retaining their top position in the test team rankings, although their lead was trimmed by 15 to 13 points after the annual update.

There is a rating of 126 from Pat Cummins, which lives well in front of the chasing pack.

England, led by Ben Stokes, made a big jump, beating both South Africa and India.

England’s better position comes on the back of winning three of its four Test series in the last one year. Their rating points climbed to 113, while South Africa (111) and India (105) reached the third and fourth position in each place in each respectively.

The rest of the top 10 are unchanged, ranked fifth with New Zealand, followed by Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

Currently only 10 teams are ranked in the test table. Ireland needs to play another test in the next 12 months to qualify for the ranking, while Afghanistan must play three more matches to join the list.
