Former India all -rounder Yuvraj Singh has praised Shubman Gill after the impressive start of the young player as the new Test captain of India. Speaking to ANI, Yuvraj appreciated both Gill’s leadership and batting during the recently concluded second Test against England in Edgbaston. Gill inspired India for a historic victory in Edgbaston, which was his first test win at the venue. “Shubman Gill did a wonderful captaincy and really batted well. I am very proud of him and I am sure his father will also be very proud,” Yuvraj said. “I am very impressed … I hope he moves forward in international cricket for a lot of centuries.” Gill, who has taken over as a Test captain of India after Rohit Sharma’s retirement, has run in the field. In a second test at Edgbaston, the 25 -year -old scored a luxurious dual century in the first innings and finished with 269 runs, chasing it with a hundred in the second. He also impressed with his cool leadership, clever field placement and support for his bowlers during the vital stages of the game. With two tests and chain levels on 1–1, Gill has already made his mark as a captain.
