New Delhi: India’s captain Shubman Gill has climbed the best of the career in the ICC Mains Test batting rankings, while England’s Harry Brook has beaten the team’s partner Joe Root to finish the longest position.Gill’s remarkable performance-269 and 161 scoring-Nene made him only second player in Test history to record 150-plas scores in both innings of a match. His total 430 runs now is the second highest in the same test. These exploits have placed him above the ranking at 15 places, launching a series at number 23. His previous best was the 14th, achieved in September last year.
Meanwhile, Brook has returned to the peak of Test batting after his stellar 158 in the first innings of the second Test in Edgbaston. He had earlier ranked number 1 for a week in December 2024. His latest Udaya Joe Root drops in second place, as well as a decrease in 18-point ratings.
