New Delhi: Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has expressed strong reservation in the form of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy on the naming of the five-match testing series between India and England. Gavaskar argued that Sachin Tendulkar’s name should appear before James Anderson, citing Tendulkar’s seniority and much better achievements in international cricket.Writing in his column for mid-day, Gavaskar dismissed the argument that the names were ordered in Varnanukram and took special objectives in England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for their decision.“The ECB is entitled to call the series completely by any name, but for the most, if not all, is bothering Indian cricket lovers to know that Anderson comes first. Not only Sachin Tendulkar is the greatest Indian cricketer with Kapil Dev, but also senior for Anderson for more than a dozen years. Gavaskar wrote that he is Numero Ano, as far as runs and Test cricket for centuries, but at one day level he has more runs than someone else. The former India captain underlined inequality in achievements between two cricketing icons.“Anderson is in third place in the list of wickets in Test cricket and his record is not good as Tendulkar in one -day cricket. Tendulkar is also part of a World Cup winning team, who has not been Anderson. Jimmy Anderson was a terrible bowler, but mainly in English conditions and his record is good as far as distant.”Gavaskar also told Indian fans and media to refer to the series as the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, to reflect the current order to reflect what he believes.

In the same column, Gavaskar made suggestions about the Pataudi Medal of Excellence, which is currently provided to the captain of the series-winning team. He questioned the argument behind that structure.“What if the series is drawn if the captain is drawn? That is why it would have been better for a Pataudi medal for the man of the match for every Test, the Pataudi Trophy for the series player.
