“I thought my face was closed, I was dead”: England’s great Andrew Flintoff remembered the horrific car accident

Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff faced a terrible car accident while filming for the top gear of the BBC in 2022. The incident left him with an important face and rib injuries when driving three-wheelers. After the accident, Flintoff required surgery. Following the incident, the BBC suspended the show’s production, former England also received 9 million pounds in compensation for Ordial. Now, speaking in a new Disney+ documentary, Flintoff said the experience was painful.

“I thought I was dead, because I was alert but I could not see anything,” he remembered. “I was thinking, what is it? Is it? You know what I mean? Just black for the rest of my days? My hat came to my eyes – so I pulled my hat up and I thought, no I am not [dead]I am on the top gear track, it is not heaven. ,

Flintoff was so afraid that he felt that his ‘face was closed’. “I thought my face was closed. I was scared of death.” The incident occurred on 13 December 2022 at the Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey. Flintoff was running an open-top Morgan Super 3, which was for a report in the BBC, when the vehicle flip and slipped.

“As it started to end, I looked at the ground and I knew if I get hit here [of the head] Then I break my neck, or if I will be killed in the temple, I am dead. The best chance is to go down on the face. And then i remember to hit [the ground] And my head was killed, “he said.

“But then I pulled out, and the car is over, and I went behind the car, and then [I got] Pulled the face down on the runway, about 50 meters below the car. And then I hit the grass and then [it] Flip back. ,

Surgeon Zahrad Haq, who treated Flintoff, said that injuries in the documentary hat were “very complex”.

He “lost a very important part of his upper lip – the skin and some underlying muscle – and its lower lips,” he said.

He said, “It seems very terrible. I wish I was killed. I think I want to die,” he said.

“I did not want to kill myself. I did not want to make two things a mistake. I was not wishing, but was thinking, it would be so easy …
