How can I defend Nikola Jokik (seriously)
When I played high school basketball, I was a matchup nightmare for my coach.
In 6 -Foot -2, I had a good shape for a point guard. At 6.2 pm in 40, I had decent speed for a center.
I could not shoot, so the coach put me in a point guard.
On crime. Certainly not on defense.
My father had the ears of the coach and insisted that I play, so I did it with instructions: bust your butt on defense. And only shoot leps.
I was good in the pastes. You can make at least three out of every four.
And it turned out, I was also good in defense. As long as I coincided with those who were not a blot.
I could protect the league’s best forward and shooting guard. Even some centers. It is not difficult to motivate when sitting on the bench.
So I am confident that I can protect Nikola Jokik. I am surprised and people can’t.
Well, not in 6-2 and 185 pounds as I was in high school. My son is 6-7, 230-give me that shape and I know that I can do it.
I mean, look at Joke.
He is one of the slowest players of the court, and also includes WNBA. And he is not a great 3-point shooter.
Those two things aligned to make him garde.
The key to the success of Joke is his footwork … and foolish from most of his defenders. The former does not have a “dance with stars” levels, so everyone has a chance.
Me too.
At 6-7? Sure. Have you watched a drummond green match with him? It is 6-6.
Draymond knows defense. And he knows Joke. Keep the two together and you understand why otherwise the invincible force shot 33 percent or less in his career against Warriors, 50 percent 14 times and below the average of 25 out of 25 out of 36.
What Draman has taught me is this:
When Jokik’s basket has its back, give it some space. When he likes to spin, which is problematic for any defender. But due to the vacancy, with the head of one-step, he can rotate like a top-that is not going anywhere.
When he is facing a circle, keep it tight. When he is already looking forward, the spinning does not help him, and he is not driving around you. If you are connected to him, when he takes one step back to shoot his patented fadeaway, you just step with him. Kinda like dancing.
And to cry loudly: no double-team. My message to any team partner leaves your man to help me: If they wanted you to guard Jokik, you will guard Joke. You focus on keeping Michael Porter Junior or Christian Braun open. Like a thunder. And if you are protecting Russell Westbrook … man, you should be a bad defender, because this man cannot shoot flat-out.
Joke is on its worst when he cannot pass. In the Oklahoma City series, he average 5.2 in a game – about half average of his season. And he is shooting 45 percent, which explains why Nugets are in a hole.
What is the popular lament among the football coaches of Bad High School teams? We are small, but we are slow.
Joke is slow, but he cannot jump. I can be an all-world defender against such people. So most of the one should be with 10 times the talent.
He picks up the ball to shoot, does not move forward.
You see that the ball starts to leave its hand, jumps.
Remember, he is not jumping, so the release point is probably 9 feet away from the ground. Without jumping, I am touching 8 feet.
Till then the ball is not out of one leg with my hand, I have jumped 2 feet required to slap the shot sideways.
Do you know that Tim Duncan had the most shots in NBA history? Was that Pau Gasol not far behind? And he is shutting down the ground like Seon Williamson silk sulivan?
If you cannot jump on top of defenders, they have got a chance. And Joke is a Zion disease.
The key is: You will not see the ball preparing for the liftoff. This prevents a dip in a perverted situation, allowing Jokik to do two things, which do the most yoga for her scoring – taking you to the past or pulling you with a dishonesty.
Lester Hayes could protect Joke. He had the right approach: Just leave me alone and the rest you play 10 -on -10. No tackling. No blissing. No zone coverage. Just I, my victory and an island.
Of course, the screening is part of the out assignment, but it is another area where the lack of jokik speed and the ability to jump helps me. There is a direction on his rebound-finder, and if I am in that way, he is not going to risk a dishonesty.
Not on me
And it leads to the fun part: when we receive the rebound, it becomes for the front of the second rim and in the 94 -foot sloth race. I can win that race – especially when doing this enough bar gives my name in the newspaper.
I learned that in high school.
Predicted the final score at any night: Jokik 24 points, me eight.
I will become a hero, which is a big issue:
What do I say to Doris in a postgame interview?
“I want to thank my father, because if he did not know the coach …”
