Hayden Birdsong began the season as a long reliever. San Francisco veteran right -handed batsmen were very effective in that role, earning an opportunity to attend the early rotation.
Birdsong will make his second start of the season in a three-game series opener in Detroit on Monday afternoon.
In its first beginning, Birdsong on Tuesday limited Canasus City to an unarmed run in five innings. 80-Picing out of four during outing, he did not run a batsman.
“Not really a surprise,” the manager Bob Melvin said. “They had something that were older (on Tuesday) that were older, but when they needed to make a pitch, they do it. Their Velo was up.
Birdsong (2–0, 1.91 ERA) replaced the ineffective right-arm Jordan Hick (1-5, 6.46) in rotation.
“I liked it,” said Birdsong. “I had more energy in the fourth, fifth, as much as I thought I would do. Obviously, I am still ramping. They are probably going to some extent to keep me to some extent in the count of a pitch for now and are building me again, but I liked it.”
While Birdsong was happy to create just the opening day roster, he was in an unfamiliar role. In the first taste of major leagues in the previous season, Birdsong started 16 games and posted a record of 5-6 and 4.75 ERA.
He does not want to go back to Bulpen.
“I am planning on this,” Birdsong said about a starter balance. “I will do what the team needs, but I am planning to start.”
Last August, Birdsong gave five runs in 4 1/3 innings for domestic loss of 5-4 to Detroit.
He could face his East Eastern Illinois team fellow tray sweeni, now the Shortstop of Tigers is a shortstop.
Sweeni told Detroit News, “It would be good, just coming from where we came from.” “This would be good for us for two, of course, but obviously for everyone who is part of that school and eastern Illinois community. It is rare to be in a small D -1 school. It’s going to be good for everyone.”
The ke aer montero may not begin, but will possibly pitch the wholesale of the game for Detroit. Montero (1–1, 5.28) made a thick outing in St. Louis last Monday, surrendering five runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings of 11–4 defeat.
“This is a business where you have good days and you have bad days,” Montero said through the interpreter Carlos Guilan. “(Monday) was not one good. But every error and every mistake you learn.”
Montero has been used as a spot starter this season, pitching in doubleheaders and then filling when injuries hit rotation. Reese Olson is currently in the injured list due to the issue of finger.
Montero faced San Francisco once in the previous season, scoring four runs in five innings of 5–4 road win last August.
Detroit on Sunday rescued the conclusion of a four-game series with Cleveland from the back of a heavy performance from the Ekka Taric Scubble. He shutout the first entire game of his career and scored 13 runs in a 5–0 win.
“It’s difficult to do what he did,” said the manager AJ Hinch. “What an incredible performance when a team required the most.”
San Francisco took two out of three from Washington over the weekend, including 3–2 win on Sunday.
