Harry Brook and Jamie Smith enter history books with a record 6th wicket stand at Edgbaston

Harry and Jamie Smith had England 84/5 before joining the army and the next wicket fell to 387.

Harry Brook and Jamie Smith have etched their names into the history books. With England in trouble, in the India vs England 2nd Test, the duo have stitched a 303-run stand at Edgbaston. The hosts had lost half of their side for 84 and were trailing by 503 when they joined forces in the middle.

Harry Brook & Jamie Smith torment India

They batted out the first session on day three, going over 6 runs per over. One felt that, given their attacking style of play, a wicket would come sooner rather than later. India tested them post-lunch, and Rishabh Pant even dropped Jamie Smith when he was batting on 121 and the stand was worth 195.

India probed a little bit, but luck remained on their side. From there, Brook and Smith didn’t stop. They batted the entire second session. The run decreased a bit, but they kept going strong. Soon, they surpassed Peter Parfitt and Barry Knight and brought up the third-highest 6th wicket stand for England in Test cricket.

In total, both of them got three chances. All drops. And all very tough. They made the most of it. The pitch wasn’t doing anything for fast bowlers and spinners. Of course, Brook and Smith didn’t care about that. They kept on batting and batting. If not for a beautiful delivery by Akash Deep, they would have remained there. A 303-run stand, the 9th highest in Test cricket history for the 6th wicket.
