At that time, during which Delvecchio played with the NHL icon Gordi Howe, Red Wings won three of their 11 Stanley Cups (1952, 1954, 1955).

Delvecchio selected a total of 1,281 points (456 goals, 825 support) and 13 times for the all-star game. He was the captain of the Red Wings for 12 sessions, and he was three -time recipients of the Lady Bang Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship and gentle conduct.

“Alex was more than a hockey icon. He respected a dedicated husband, loving father, great grandfather, nurtured friend and team partner,” said in his family’s statement. “While the world knew him as an incredible hockey player with many achievements on ice, we knew him as someone who had more than his known achievements, whose humility, strength, competition, kindness and heart were more than his known achievements.”
