Griffin Canning, Mates limited 3 hits in 4–1 wins to 3 hits

Griffin Canning threw six concrete innings and a three-star combined for hosts New York Met’s with three relievers, who beat St. Louis Cardinals 4–1 on Thursday night in a four-game series opener.

Mark Wientos worked for Mets, who scored all their runs in the second innings, sniffing two-market skids. Francisco Lindor had three singles, including an RBI hit, while Brett Batty had a run-scoring single between his two hits.

Starling Marte and Tyrone Taylor also hit for New York.

Brendon Donovan had an RBI single for cardinals, who lost two out of three. Donovan is batting. 460 (23-50) during the 13-Game Hitting Streak.

Victor Scott II and Alec Berlson had other hits of cardinals.

Canning (2–1), which was about to begin on Wednesday, but scratched with a disease, gave a run on three hits and two walks, while a season-high exiting eight.

Reed Garte went one in the seventh and AJ Minor threw an ideal eighth place before Edwin Diaz touched his fourth savings by taking out two in a hitless ninth.

St. Louis Starter Andre Pallante (2–1) suffered a loss after giving four runs on seven hits and did not walk out of two in six innings.

Mets scored four runs in the second, including two outs three times. Wientos hit their first homer of the season, a leadoff was shot just before it doubled with Starling Marte and scored on two-out Blog Single by Batty.

Taylor chased a single and Batty on the single of Lindore. Lindor got stuck between the first and the second when William contraras cut the throw from the right fielder Jordan Walker, but stayed in a randon for a long time to allow Lindor Taylor to score from third place.

Cardinals scored their run in the third, when Scott led a single, stole the second, secured third place on a wild pitch by Canning and scored on Donovan’s hit.
