Compulsory Credit: David Kirok-Imagon Picture George Russell of Great Britain captured his first F1 win of the year leading wire-to-wire at Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on Sunday.
Russell on Saturday earned a pole position with “an incredible pole lap”, initially shut down four -time world champion Max Verustapane, and did not threaten the rest of the way.
Russell has described the position of his sixth career pole “probably as the most spectacular lap that I have ever done in my life because around this circuit you are so committed.”
McLaren team fellow Lando Noris and Oscar Piastry came out of the east and finished four laps. Piastry managed to finish fourth and increased its lead in the Championship (198 points) on Noris.
The collision has inspired an investigation by Race Steward.
Verustapane, who finished second, is in third place (155), while Russell is the fourth (136).
Fourteen races out of 24 remain at 2025 circuits.
Russell’s Mercedes team partner, 18 -year -old Km Antonally finished third, who became the third youngest driver to earn podium spots.
“It was very stressful, but (I) super happy,” said Antonally. “I had a good start, managed to jump into P3 and just stopped in front.”
Russell won his fourth career after capturing the Las Vegas Grand Prix in 2024.
“I want to thank the team and the factory for their efforts,” Russell said. “Let’s see what happens in the Inupcoming race, but I am going to enjoy this one for now!”
