‘Gautam talked to Gambhir, there was an argument’: Rohit Sharma breaks long silence on Sydney Test Bridge

India captain Rohit Sharma recalled his decision to exit the decisive Sydney Test of Seema Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, saying he took a call for the betterment of the team. Speaking to former Australia captain Michael Clarke on Beyond 23 Cricket Podcast, Rohit recalled his chat with head coach Gautam Gambhir and Chairman of the selectors Ajit Aggarkar before the game, saying that both of them would not play in Sydney after informing them. Rohit scored just 164 runs in 15 innings, on an average at 10.83, as India lost the Seema Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in a decade.
Speaking on the decision to leave himself, Rohit suggested that he wanted Shubman Gill to play the decider of the series as he later missed the game before one in Sydney.
“In the final Test match in Sydney, I had to be honest with myself. I was not hitting the ball well. And I did not want to keep myself only because we had many other people who were struggling together. When you add yourself there, it gets a little more … and we wanted to play Gill. He is a good player. He failed in the last Test.”
“I was so,” Okay, if I am not hitting the ball well, it’s right now. ” Things can change after ten days.
Rohit said that ever since he captured the captaincy, his focus has been to keep the team ahead of personal goals.
“Whatever decisions you make and make, you are not guaranteed success. Since I have started the captaincy of the national team, not only me, I wanted the rest of the people to think alike – try and do the team before and what is necessary for the team and what is necessary for the team and what is necessary for the team and ‘my run, my scores,’ and not worrying too much about the goods. It is important because you are a team playing,” said the game.
