After the retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from Test cricket, India’s head coach Guatam Gambhir has allegedly demanded full rights from the Control Board (BCCI) for cricket in India for the team’s day-to-day operations. Since his appointment as the head coach, the serious team has been adamant to end superstar culture within the team. And it seems that he may have played a big hand to force Rohit and Kohli to keep an eye on the future.

Rohit and Kohli’s sudden announcement came a few days before the selection of India’s squad for the upcoming testing series in England. The team is guaranteed by a new captain, in which Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah lead the race to wear blazer in the toss when the first Test is in the Leeds on June 20.

According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, Gambhir is likely to call shots, as far as the selection of the team, policy-making and other teams related to other teams are concerned, as no one is left to challenge his call. This will mark the first example of an Indian head coach, which will have more power than the captain.

The report said, “To prevent the home-series defeat against The Dibekal in New Zealand and Australia, Gambhir has requested the board for full autonomy.”

The report said that Gambhir Gill wants to be a captain who may be his associate because he is still young. The only player who can challenge Gambhir’s current team, Captain Race – leads in Bumrah.

Bumrah was Rohit’s designated deputy in Test cricket, which ideally makes him an automatic captaincy option. He even served as a stand-in captain in Perth and when Rohit chose the final test in Sydney. However, their injury may be the reason behind Record Gill receiving the node.

If this happens, it is safe to say that it is actually the beginning of the ‘Gautam Gambhir’ era. However, Gambhir will only have the right in Test cricket as both Rohit and Kohli are gearing up with full force to play the 2027 ODI World Cup.
