Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, along with veterans, now faced a major challenge to India to fill the zero left by two players. The team will get a replacement in batting, but the overall impact by two players in total can never be matched soon. Both Rohit and Virat brought their brilliant batting and on-field strategy as well as a very big experience with them, which helped to enrich the team for years. The pair is no longer part of the test side, now the attention turns on the Indian captain which is yet to be nominated in the format and head coach Gautam Gambhir, which will be a major task of leading the less experienced side.
Saba Karim of former India’s wicketkeeper and former-BCCI selector believes that Gambhir will play a big role in the new-look team.
Karim told the Times of India, “(Gautam) Gambhir becomes the most important person here. They have to give confidence to the players. They need to do first, the new captain, the vision they have and the cricket brand wants to do what the team wants to play.”
Devang Gandhi, who is also a pre-India player and a former national selector, said that Gambhir should return to players like Rishabh Pant, who had a bad run recently.
“Gambhir is clear about how he wants to play his team. But he needs to become a man who empowers the players and builds leaders in the team. I am sure he will return a person like Rishabh Pant, who hit a thick patch in Australia, and gave him more confidence on the upcoming, difficult tour of England,” Gandhi said.
India is set to visit England for the five -match Test series starting on June 20. This World Test Championship Bicycle will start a campaign for the Indian team in 2025-27. The squad for the series is expected to be declared on 23 May. Some new facials can cut the team because India aims to keep the purpose around a better show this time, unlike the previous cycle, in which they disappointedly missed a place in the finals.
