Gautam Gambhir Gambhir admission ahead of the new captain’s announcement: “Easy to work …”

Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir would like to have a captain for all three formats, but such a scenario in modern day cricket is not possible. Following Rohit Sharma’s test retirement, the BCCI on Saturday is expected to announce a new captain for the format before the five -match series against England, starting from June 20. Suryakumar Yadav is currently the captain of India in T20I, while Rohit will continue to lead in the 50 -over format. With Rohit and Virat Kohli testing and retiring from T20I, the selection call of Gambhir is likely to have more power, and there is a high probability that there will be three different captains for each format in India.

There will be a captain for all three formats seriously as it is very easy to plan and strategic with a person. However, he admitted that it is almost impossible for a player to play all three formats throughout the year besides IPL.

“Ideally, as a coach, it is very easy to work with a man. If you have a captain for all formats, but it hardly happens because you have to feel at today’s day and age, you may not have a captain for 12 months a year. You play 10 months international cricket and then you have to lead IPL.

Gambhir said that the captaincy of all-format can take a toll on the mental health of a young player.

“Imagine the captaincy of a young person for 12 months, putting a lot of toll on his mental health and his game too. Ideally, it is one, but at the day and age, it is always better for two because that pressure can be distributed and when he is not cheating it is very easy for a player,” he went to add to a player.

While Kohli and Rohit have bid for the test and T20 format, they will still be available for India in 50 overs games.

Asked if the two can form a team for the 2027 ODI World Cup, Gambhir said, “Look, this is still a long way. We still have a T20 World Cup before that, and it is again a huge tournament that is going to be in India, which is in February-March,” he said.

“So after England, full attention will be on the T20 World Cup at this time, and November-December 2027 is still two and a half years away. And I have always said one thing-if you keep performing, the age is just a number,” he said.
