Fred Vanvet elected Chairman of National Basketball Players Association

Houston Rockets Guard Fred Wanwett has been elected President of the National Basketball Players Association for current professional basketball players at NBA, NBPA announced today.

The 31 -year -old was selected by his fellow NBA players and would serve a four -year tenure to begin immediately.

“This is actually an honor for his colleagues to be selected as the chairman of NBPA and I look forward to continue to advocate for the best interest of all members,” said Vanvet.

“With a deeper praise for complications and challenges, the players have to face all the levels of their NBA travel, I am committed to getting closer to this role with passion, dignity and dedication.”

According to an NBPA statement, the NBPA interacts on collective bargaining agreements, complains on behalf of the players and educates the players about the benefits and NBA career opportunities among other responsibilities.

Vanvleet has dedicated himself to the court to philanthropic and advocate efforts. He founded the Vanvet Family Foundation in 2016, which was an organization with a mission, “to increase access and risk for the youth through educational opportunities, athletics and career development.”

He succeeds CJ McColm, who worked as NBPA President from 2021 and will now work in “Advisory Capacity”.

“It has been the privilege of serving the NBPA Executive Committee for the last seven years and specifically shaping our sports business,” said McColm. “I am encouraged by the future of PA led by Fred, as they have earned respect to the basketball community and proved that he is ready for this next step.

“I am eager to support him because we continue to build a strong association that serves the players’ past, current and future generations.”

Vanvleet has an unexpected career route in NBA. After four years in Wichita State, he signed as an unpublished free agent with Toronto Repaters. He spent time in his crook year before developing as an all-star, NBA Champion and finally the most paid players of all time.

He has scored 14.9 points and 5.7 in his nine-year career with raptors (2016–23) and rockets in his nine-year career.
