Former-MMA champion Ben Askraine receives lung transplantation

MMA Champion and Olympic wrestler Ben Ascrain is recovering from a double lung transplant.
Askraine’s wife, Amy shared the update in a Facebook post on Monday.
“We are very grateful to share that Ben has received a double lung implant,” she wrote. “We are grateful to the donor and his family forever. It is a new lifestyle beginning for Ben, but every new day has a gift. It still doesn’t feel real that he was just a completely healthy walking around five weeks ago. Can change so soon. In the coming weeks, Ben will be able to give the next update.”
40 -year -old Ascrain has been battling pneumonia at the Wisconsin Hospital for several weeks. He went on ventilator support on 17 June and according to his wife, was added to the transplant waiting list on 24 June.
Oscrain won three Big 12 Championships in Missouri and two NCAA Division I Championships, 2005 PAN American Championships and by adding gold medals at the 2005 World Championships. He reached the quarter -finals at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
He infection in the Octagon after his wrestling career and compiled 19–2 records with a no-control in a 22 MMA quarrel. Askraine became the Belter Welterweight Champion in 2010 and started his UFC in 2019. He lost two out of three quarrels in the UFC, including the UFC 239 to a five -second knockout necklace to George Maswididal in Las Vegas.
Oscrain made a unsuccessful boxing debut on 17 April 2021, losing to Jake Paul by TKO in the first round.
