Recalling the Chicago Fire in 16 era of the US Open Cup exactly eight years after FC Cincinnati, the two teams will meet for the second time this season in Cincinnati on Saturday night.
Cincinnati (12–5–3, 39 points) dropped Chicago out 3–2 at home during a month on 19 April, when the fire went 0-3–1. Since then, however, Chicago (8–7–4, 28 points) has increased by 7–3–1 in its previous 11 MLS regular-season matches, allowing the fire to climb ninth in the Eastern conference.
FC Cincinnati, however, will ride a three -match winning streak on the pitch on Saturday night. All three wins came on the road, winning 2–1 in Orlando City on Saturday night.
“You have to understand how to play against different teams and different atmosphere and learn how to manage,” said Cincinti’s head coach Pat Nunnan. “For most parts, our people have done a good job.”
Meanwhile, Chicago has been a scary team this season.
The fire scored seven goals in his victory at DC United on 7 June, but he allowed seven goals in his road loss at Nashville SC on 26 April.
After going 5–1-1 in six matches in May, the fire increased to 2–2–0 in June. But he ended the month with a 3–2 domestic win over Charlotte FC to stay in playoff positioning. This was just the second domestic victory of the season’s fire.

Cincinnati is just 1-3–2 at home against Chicago, but on Saturday there is an opportunity to sweep a regular season on fire for the first time in the history of the club.
