Fairground La28 in Pomona to host cricket at Olympics

Dubai [UAE]April 16 (ANI): The International Cricket Council (ICC) welcomed the announcement on Tuesday that Pomona, Fairground in Southern California, ICC will host cricket at the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics as per the official website.

Enthusiasm has been created around the Olympic return of cricket as it was confirmed that the game would return to the Games after a gap of 128 years.

On 9 April, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board confirmed the number of players Kota and participating teams for cricket at the 2028 Olympics.

Both men and women will have six teams in T20 competitions. A 90-Khiladi quota will be allocated per gender, allowing each nation to bring the squad of 15 players into the field.

The full tournament schedule will be finalized near the beginning of the Games.

ICC President J Shah said, “We welcome the announcement of the venue for cricket at Los Angeles 2028 as it is an important step to prepare for our game return to the Olympics.”

“Although cricket is a very popular sport, it will be a great opportunity to expand traditional boundaries, when it is included in the Olympics fast, exciting T20 format, which should appeal to the new audience. From the ICC, from the ICC, I want to express my gratitude to La 28 and International Olympic Committee for my support.

Cricket return to the Olympics in October 2023 Los Angeles Games – Basball/Softball, Flag Football, Lacros (Six) and five additional games for squash.

The T20 format is shown in the first multi-sport events, with both men and women competitions held at the Asian Games in 2010, 2014 and 2023. A female T20 tournament is shown at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. (AI)
