Explained – What happens if PBKS vs Mi IPL 2025 qualifier 2 is washed due to rain?

This is a blockbuster knockout-Five-bar champion Mi vs PBKS, a team is still chasing their first IPL title.
After 72 matches and two gruelling months of play-travel-play, the IPL 2025 has reached its penultimate chapter. Three teams are left standing: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who are already in the final, and two contenders – Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) – who will face off in the second Qualifier on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
It’s Hardik Pandya’s men riding momentum against Shreyas Iyer’s table-toppers reeling from a shocking defeat in Qualifier 1. One match will decide who takes on RCB in Tuesday’s final. But what if the match doesn’t happen at all?

What Happens if PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2 is Washed Out?
Unlike the IPL final, which has a reserve day, Qualifier 2 has no backup day scheduled. So, if the PBKS vs MI clash is washed out due to rain or any other force majeure, Punjab Kings will progress to the final by virtue of finishing higher in the league stage.
In fact, the Shreyas Iyer-led side finished at the top of the points table, with 19 points at an incredible Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.372. Meanwhile, MI sneaked into the top four after clinching a must-win game over the Delhi Capitals (DC). MI had 16 points, winning eight games and losing six.
As per IPL’s playing conditions, in the event of a washout, the team ranked higher in the points table automatically qualifies for the next stage. That means, if not a single ball is bowled, Shreyas Iyer and co. will book their spot in the final against RCB, and MI’s campaign will come to a rain-soaked end.
PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2: Weather Report
Thankfully for MI fans, the weather isn’t expected to be a villain. According to AccuWeather, Ahmedabad is forecast to remain dry, with no rain predicted on match day. The temperature is likely to hover around 34°C, with mild humidity and no serious weather alerts. While a light drizzle was spotted during PBKS’ training session, it’s unlikely to affect Sunday’s proceedings.
