England cricket team are hoping that they can wrap up the IND vs ENG 3rd Test at Lord’s early on Day 5 of the contest. The match is evenly poised at the moment, with India needing 135 runs to win while England need 6 more wickets to seal the deal. England were bowled out for 192 runs on Day 4, thanks to a stunning spell from Washington Sundar. However, the hosts prevailed in the last session drama that saw India being reduced to four wickets at the end of the day’s play.
England in a hurry to win IND vs ENG 3rd Test
Speaking at the press conference after play on Day 4, England coach Marcus Trescothik said that the team hope that they can pick all the remaining 6 wickets within the first hour on Day 5 and take a 2-1 lead in the series. The assistant coach noted that the last hour of game on Day 4 changed things for England, adding that the first hour of game on the final day will be very crucial.
“That last hour made it amazing. Everyone was invested, crowd was behind the team. Buzz around the ground gave the boys a lift. It will revolve around first hour tomorrow. Hopefully we will get six wickets in the first hour tomorrow,” the England coach said.
Washington Sundar stood out on a Lord’s track that seemed to offer least assistance to spinners. The spinner got the crucial wickets of Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jamie Smith to held India strangle England. Eventually, he finished with figures of 4/22, helping India reduce the hosts to just 192 runs.
Jaiswal was the first to depart in the run-chase as he fell prey to Jofra Archer once again. Karun Nair was the next to depart as he faced yet another failure. Skipper Shubman Gill was outsmarted by Brydon Carse and was sent packing cheaply. The last batter to depart on Day 4 was nightwatchman Akash Deep who was castled by Ben Stokes on the final delivery of the day.
India finished Day 4 at 58/4 and need 135 runs to win the match and take a 2-1 lead in the series.
