Former India left -arm spinner Sunil Joshi has thrown his hat in the ring for the post of spin bowling coach at BCCI’s Center of Excellence (COE), which was evacuated by Sarej very much earlier this year. Koe was earlier known as the National Cricket Academy when it was out of the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It remains in the city, but is now operational from a new place, when the BCCI has purchased land to create more expansion facilities. Manyules resigned to become an assistant coach in the IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals.
54 -year -old Joshi, who played 15 Tests and 69 ODIs for India between 1996 and 2002, is currently working with Ricky Ponting in the Punjab Kings IPL team and has also trained Uttar Pradesh during the domestic season.
He has also worked as his spin bowling consultant with Bangladesh’s national men’s team.
According to BCCI sources, Joshi appeared online for his interview in front of a three -member panel, which included Ajit Aggarkar, chairman of the COE cricket VVS Laxman, Ajit Aggarkar, chairman of the men’s selection committee and Abe Kuruvilla.
There were four other people, who appeared to be an off-spinner in their sports days, including Nushin Al Khadher, the coach of India’s U-19 women’s team, who was an off-spinner.
She represented the country in five tests and 78 Vodis and has been working in NCA setup for a few years.
Another strong candidate is believed to be Rakesh Dhruv, a former Gujarat and Saurashtra left -handed spinner. Pritam Gandhe, a veteran off-spinner of Vidarbh’s domestic Doyen, has also been interviewed for the post.
When a senior BCCI officer was asked about the interview for the post, he said: “Obviously, Sunil Joshi has the best CV among all other candidates. In the case of Noshin, BCCI also has a detailed female wing with the employees dedicated to international, national and domestic age-up women cricketers.” “While the elite plays the level, beautifies the CV and Sunil is the only (male) Test cricketer among those who appeared for interviews, their biggest plus has great experience in elite coaching.
He said, “He has given coaching to many first-class teams, has been a part of IPL coaching set-up and has also given coaching to Senior Men’s International Team.
But even Dhruv cannot be dismissed as he has played a lot of cricket for Saurashtra and Gujarat.
Most of the candidates were asked about their vision for the role.
The chosen candidate will be expected to provide technical insight to international stars like Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav or Washington Sundar, but also work with India A, India N -19 and top domestic artists.
The appointed coach will also create a synergy between the coaches of the state team, and will coordinate with the national selectors to prepare the players to play after recovering from injuries.
