Sanjay Manjrekar, the batter of the former Indian cricket team, believes that Jasprit Bumrah should be the top option to convert Rohit Sharma into a Test captain. Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket and five days later, Virat Kohli also followed the suit. With the England series in June, the selectors will have to select the next captain of the Indian cricket team. Bumrah captained the side in Rohit’s absence during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, but several media reports claimed that Shubman Gill is currently the top contender for the job. Manjrekar was ‘surprised’ that Bumrah was not the only option for captaincy and said that if the selectors are concerned about their fitness, they should choose a vice-captain who can handle the position in his absence.
“I am surprised that we are looking at any other option other than Bumrah as Test Captain! Then worry about his injuries? Then choose your Vice Captain carefully.” He posted on X (East Twitter).
Meanwhile, R Ashwin has contained Jaspreet Bumrah for captaincy Bamra after a sudden Test retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who left a leadership vacuum in India’s red-ball setup.
Rohit said last Wednesday to test cricket, and a few days later, Virat bid farewell to his farewell with a hearty note on Instagram. Ashwin, who had no clue about the intentions of India’s batting Bigwigs of retiring together, feel that “testing time” is ahead for Indian cricket, and his decision “actually marks the beginning of the” Gautam Gautam “era”.
“I had no idea that both [Rohit and Kohli] Will retire together. This will be a test time for Indian cricket, and I would say that this is actually the beginning of Gautam Gambhir era, “Ashwin said on his YouTube show ‘Ash Ki Butt’.
If recent reports are believed, Shubman Gill is at the forefront of Captain Tag despite serving former captain Rohit in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He served as a stand-in captain in Perth and when Rohit chose the final test in Sydney.
He said, “The team that visits England will be a completely new team, a converted team where Bumrah will probably be the most player. He is clearly one of the captaincy options; I think he is entitled to captaincy, but the selectors will take a decision based on their physical ability.”
