DRS in favor of England? Sunil Gavaskar questioned KL Rahul’s LBW in 5 days at Lord’s

For naked eyes, it seemed that the ball was going over the stumps when KL Rahul was hit on the pad and even the umpire did not give it.

Sunil Gavaskar isn’t one bit pleased with the Decision Review System (DRS). He feels that more often than not, it has gone against India and in favour of England. The cricket legend didn’t claim that the hosts were getting any unfair advantage but rather questioned the technology itself.

With the India vs England 3rd Test on a knife’s edge, every decision mattered. And when the DRS overturned a review for LBW against KL Rahul in England’s favour, Gavaskar wasn’t pleased one bit. The ball had pitched outside off and jacked in sharply to strike Rahul on his pads.

Gavaskar questions DRS

To the naked eye, it looked like sailing over since it hit Rahul over the knee roll. Umpire Paul Reiffel shook his head in disagreement. Joe Root didn’t seem in favour of taking a DRS. But captain and bowler Ben Stokes went ahead anyway. Surprisingly, the ball tracking showed the ball didn’t bounce much and was hitting the middle and leg stump.

England were elated. Rahul walked back in disappointment. Gavaskar wasn’t pleased with the DRS’s consistency. On the previous day, we saw the DRS show balls bouncing over the stumps at least once when India reviewed. Even when Shubman Gill didn’t signal the T sign, the replays suggested the balls were sailing over.

But the very next day, the DRS didn’t do so. Gavaskar wasn’t happy with his. “Surprisingly, this one didn’t bounce that much. When Indian bowlers were bowling, the balls were going above the stump mostly in reviews,” Gavaskar said while commentating.

His fellow commentator Michael Vaughan tried to diffuse the situation, perhaps thinking that Gavaskar was claiming some foul play. But the batting legend stated that he has issues with the ball tracking. “I am questioning the technology,” Gavaskar added.
