Did the BCCI make a mistake by dismissing Abhishek Nair?

Abhishek Nair was part of the sorting of BCCI coaching staff before the tour of England. He was fired after just 8 months in the job.
Abhishek Nair was fired from his job as an assistant coach of India cricket team, KL Rahul shouted him a public shout. A few days later, India’s captain Rohit Sharma also did the same. Another star batter, Shreyas Iyer, has accepted his contribution. Even Dinesh Karthik credited Nair for his revival. Then, why BCCI currently fired the coach with the most confident in Indian cricket? The reasons remain speculative.
However, Rohit Sharma has once again admitted to bringing Nair’s contribution back. Rohit posted a fluent 46-gent 75 against Chennai Super Kings, thanking Nair on his Instagram channel. Rohit has been working with Nair for a long time. Even before Nair was re -appointed as a coach in KKR, he was working with Rohit in BKC facility in Mumbai.
Players testimony
A few days ago, KL Rahul, struggling to strengthen himself in T20 cricket, credited Abhishek Nair his new look.
“Big shout for Abhishek Nair. I have done a lot of work with him since coming to the Indian team. We have spent hours and hours talking about our white ball game and how I can be better. We have worked together in Mumbai. I think I have enjoyed playing white-ball cricket,” KL Rahul said after scoring 77, who won the match against Chennai Super Kings.
Before the start of IPL 2025, Shreyas Iyer echoed similar feelings. He accepted Nair’s support.
“See, when I am in climb in my life, only a few people convey to me. And their names are Praveen Amre Sir and Abhishek Nair. Because these people have always seen me since my young days. When something is going well, be normal, then they are very good with me. Iyer said.
Why was Abhishek Nair dismissed?
It raises the question: If they have helped the players personally, why was Nair dismissed? The reasons are not clear and will never be clear. While there are suggestions that BCCI wanted to trim coaching roles ahead of India’s India Tour and Nair was made a scapegoat for failure in Australia Tour, there have been reports of a rift.
- Poor test performance: India’s disappointing run in the 2024–25 Test season, including 0-3 home whitewash against New Zealand and 1–3 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, reviewed the BCCI. These defeats gave India a place in the World Test Championship final. Abhishek Nair’s team was criticized for batting failures, which struggled with senior players like Rohit Sharma (31 runs, average 6.20) and Virat Kohli (190 runs, average 23.75).
- Internal cracks? -Rip those suggested that Nair became a sacrifice of a sacrifice between a high-profile assistant staff member and a senior star player in “Turf War”. His appearance was considered a “counter-producer” in the dressing room. A BCCI source indicated that during the tour of Australia after a review meeting, a powerful team management figures expressed concern about Nair’s role, which led to his sidelines. It should be noted that India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir brought Nair.
- Appointment of sitanshu kotak: BCCI promoted Sitanshu Kotak as a batting coach in January 2025 after its tenure with NCA and U19 setups. However, the person who was about to improve the batting attitude of the Indian batsmen, said that he wanted to learn from Rohit and Virat despite repeated mistakes on Australia.
- KKR Effect? – The Indian cricket team has KKR influence. Gambhir, Nair, Ryan Ten Dochet and Morne Morkel were all parts of the KKR setup in the IPL. There have been reports of BCCI being unhappy with the influence of KKR in the dressing room.
- Dressing room leaked: The leaked from the Indian dressing room on the Australia tour did not go down well. Many pointed fingers were indicated on his close connections with Nair and the media. But there is no evidence to believe such rumors.
Was firing Nair a mistake?
A coach that helps the players and brings them back should be observed. However, this has not happened here. Nair will continue to work with Indian players on personal capacity. But being with Team India would definitely help.
Should the BCCI not promote domestic talents like Nair instead of relying on foreign expertise like Dochhet? Perhaps.
Although some people may argue that Nair is more successful as a white ball coach than the red-ball, the Mumbai batsman has scored more than 5500 runs in first-class cricket. Looking at the time, he could succeed in turning things. But the BCCI gave him an eight -month term.
BCCI also paid attention to the success of its white ball as India won the ICC Champions Trophy. But in the end, Abhishek Nair India Cricket Team has disadvantage and Kolkata Knight Riders.
