Dhananjaya de Silva Banks on Home Advantage WTC Final to make 2027

Sri Lanka has never lost a test series at home against Bangladesh. As the Sri Lanka WTC 2025-27 cycle starts, they will aim to start on a winning note.
Not a favorite, but the Sri Lanka cricket team had a realistic way to make it in the WTC final 2025. All he had to do was to win against Australia at home and won at least one match against South Africa. However, this mission proved impossible as Sri Lanka lost all those games to finish sixth in the World Test Championship point table. Now, a new test cycle begins as Sri Lanka takes Bangladesh at home in a two-match test series starting from 17 June. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva is targeting the WTC final 2027, banking on home benefits.
Sri Lanka will play 12 matches in the 2025-27 WTC cycle. As mandatory by ICC, each team will play three home series and many distance. However, Sri Lanka will face two of the strongest test teams at home – India and South Africa -. This gives them a benefit.
“We had a big chance to reach the finals. But unfortunately, we could not do this. Even yesterday, when I spoke to the boys, I reminded them where we can be and where we ended. As we start a new cycle, we know we have to win our home series. We have a great chance to start a new cycle with a home chain.” Sri Lankan Test captain Dhananjaya D. Silva asked reporters ahead of the SL vs. Ban Test series.
Sri Lanka in WTC 2025-27
However, what will be the lack of Sri Lanka is continuity. After the SL vs. Bain Test series, Sri Lanka’s next test assignment will be a year later against the West Indies. With no testing in the middle, Sri Lanka will face a major challenge in challenging the WTC Final 2027.
However, really, Sri Lanka may be one of the challenging teams. The most difficult chain for him will be away from New Zealand. The West Indies and Pakistan series will be removed. But both teams have taken their proper share of conflicts. Therefore, Sri Lanka may be disturbed against Pakistan as Bangladesh did in the last test cycle. Even though Sri Lanka never won a Test series in the West Indies, they attracted the last three, giving them a chance to win a distant series.
This will be a major challenge against India and South Africa at home. Sri Lanka has not won a test series against India at home since 2008. However, with the Indian cricket team in transition, D Silva and the company can smell an opportunity. Defense of World Testing Champion South Africa can also be an opportunity. The last time Sri Lanka hosted South Africa, they won 2–0 in 2018.
“Our job as professionals is to be compatible with any situation. Dhananjay de Silva said.
