DDCA introduced two new teams for Delhi Premier League, DPL 2025 Player Auction on 5 July

South Delhi Superstars, Old Deli 6, Central Delhi Kings, North Delhi Strikers, West Delhi Lions and East Delhi Riders are six original DPL teams.
The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has announced that the second edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) will feature eight instead of six teams. On June 27, DDCA accepted bids for the purchase of two new teams, New Delhi and Outer Delhi.
DPL expanded to 6 teams
DDCA director Shyam Sunder Sharma had hinted at the change earlier this month. He also informed that the DPL 2025 season will be played in the first or second week of August. Last year, the T20 tournament was played from August 17 to September 8 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
“We are thinking of increasing facilities in DPL. There are talks of increasing the teams as well (from six to eight). The new DPL season will begin in the first or second week of August,” DDCA director Shyam Sunder Sharma told PTI earlier this month.
DPL 2025 auction on July 5
According to The Patriot, the DPL 2025 player auction will take place on July 5. Compared to other stages, DDCA is lagging. Most domestic T20 tournaments are already over and ideally, the DPL should have been held earlier. But it turns out that DDCA President Rohan Jaitley is currently on his annual vacation outside of India. This has delayed the DPL expansion.
“The process for the DPL can’t move forward without him—that’s one explanation for the delay in the auction of the two new teams and the player auction thereafter. The appointment of coaching and support staff for various teams is also pending,” he said.
