‘Dangerous player’ is a fan of Rishabh Pant after being afraid of Ben Stokes Leeds

Rishabh Pant became India’s first wicketkeeper batsman to score twin tons in a Test match. He is only the second keeper-botter to reach the tricks only after Andy Flower.

Rishabh Pant almost blew Ben Stokes’s head off in the 1st innings of IND vs ENG Headingley Test on just the second ball he faced. The brand ambassador of Bazball, Stokes, could only laugh at Pant’s ultra-aggressive approach. He exchanged some fun banter with his young rival. Pant went on to score twin centuries in record-breaking innings in Leeds. However, the England captain has nothing but praise for Pant.

“I absolutely love watching Rishabh Pant play cricket. I love the way he takes it on in all formats of the game,” Ben Stokes said at the pre-match presser ahead of IND vs ENG Edgbaston Test.

Rishabh Pant’s twin ton

Pant wasn’t always ultra-aggressive, though. He kept England’s bowlers at bay with defensive play throughout both innings. He added partnerships to keep the scorecard ticking. In the first innings, he scored 147 and followed it up with 118 in the 2nd innings to become only the second wicketkeeper-batter after Andy Flower to score twin tons in a Test match.

“He has got a bit of stick in his time, but that type of talent, when you let that type of talent be free, that is what can happen, you know, last week. But yeah, it is the sort of thing when you look back on last week and credit to him, two 100s in the game,” Ben Stokes applauded his knocks.

However, Stokes is happy that Rishabh Pant plays with an ultra-aggressive approach. Stokes has warned that England will have more opportunities to dismiss Pant. If Pant plays longer, he could dent England’s chances of winning.

“We know we are going to get our chances with the way that Rishabh plays. So yeah, it is one of them, on a different day it could have looked a little bit different if one of those had gone straight off into a hand,” Stokes said.
