New Zealand will start its preparation for T20 World Cup 2026 with a three-series against South Africa and Zimbabwe
New Zealand have announced a 15-man squad for the upcoming Tri-series against Zimbabwe and South Africa. The three sides will play seven T20Is starting from July 14 and will mark the start of their preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026. Key players like Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell Santner are back in the side while some others have missed out as well.
No Devon Conway in New Zealand’s T20I squad for tri-series
A notable omission from the squad was Devon Comway. The opening batter, who hasn’t been in the scheme of things in the shortest format of the game, last played a T20I back in June 2024.
Meanwhile, Phillips returns to the side, having recovered from an injury he sustained while fielding for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. The trio of Phillips, Santner and Rachin did not play in New Zealand’s previous T20I series against Pakistan. Adam Milne and Bevon Jacobs recieved their maiden T20I call-ups.
Pacer Ben Sears hasn’t been picked due to a side injury while Lockie Ferguson has been left out as a part of load management. Kyle Jamieson has opted out of the series due to a family issue while veteran Kane Williamson has made himself unavailable for the tri-series.
All matches will be held at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe.
