Cricket Australia cleaned the return of its players with Blunt WTC Final Remark for IPL 2025

The Indian Premier League (IPL) starts on May 17 with the 2025 season, after being suspended due to the border tension between India and Pakistan, many foreign players face a great dilemma to return home or stay at home. Reports reported that Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc’s choice is unlikely to return to India for the remaining IPL season, while some other players have not yet been made their minds. Amidst this situation, Cricket Australia has clarified its stand on the participation of Australian players in the T20 League.

The IPL 2025 season was originally scheduled to end with the final on 25 May, but would not end on June 03, with the Indo-Pak fight on the border to force the authorities to expand the season. This also means that the 18th edition of the T20 League will be held just a week before the World Test Championship Final between Australia and South Africa. Therefore, the situation holds Australian and South African players in a difficult place.

Cleaning its stance, Cricket Australia said that it would withdraw the players’ personal choice when returning to India for the IPL. However, some arrangements will also be required for players who are participating in the IPL and are expected to join Australia’s squad for the WTC final on 11 June.

CA said in a statement, “Cricket Australia will support the players in their personal decisions whether to return to India or not.”

“Team management will work through preparation implications for the World Test Championship Final for players who choose to play in the remaining IPL matches.

“We are maintaining communication with the Australian government and BCCI around security arrangements and security.”

Among the Australian players participating in the IPL, Hazelwood is sure to be out, while others such as Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Josh England and Mich Starc have not yet been confirmed their decisions.

Meanwhile, the Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI), has already asked the franchise to ask all foreign players to return to the IPL. Cricket Australia’s message, therefore, clears its stand on the matter.
