The capitals of Punjab Kings and Delhi were evacuated from Dharamasala on Friday and were taken to Jalandhar railway station through batches through Hoshiarpur amidst tight security, Kangra Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri has revealed. The official said that the squad is currently in transit in New Delhi, a special train. The IPL match between Punjab and Delhi was called by the Central Marg on Thursday, when Pakistan attempted to attack the airspace with a drone attack near Chandigarh, making an Indian vengeance mandatory. “On Friday morning, the entire team of both teams, including players, coaching staff and broadcasting personnel, were transferred to about 40 to 50 small vehicles from Dharamasala to Hoshiarpur on the Punjab border,” the official said.
He said that the convoy was rescued by the Kangra police and the Punjab Police took the security system after reaching Hoshiarpur.
From there, he was specially taken to Jalandhar to board a systematic train.
Speaking on the evacuation process on Thursday, Agnihotri said: “The stadium was approved within 20 minutes. Our first priority was the security of all present. The players of both teams were immediately called back from the ground and transferred to their respective hotels under tight security.” Earlier in the day, the IPL was suspended due to military confrontation, which was started on 22 April with the Pahgam terror attack in which 26 people were closed.
The BCCI said that national interests trump other ideas at a time when the country is responding to a terrorist attack and unfair aggression from across the border.
