Coco Goff, Jessica Pagula advance in French Open

In the second round of the French Open in Paris on Thursday, the Czech Republic qualifier Tereza Valentova fought a second-seeded Coco Gough with a 6–2, 6-4 win.

Goff crossed six double defects in 75 minutes to send 18 -year -old Valentova.

When she faces Mary Buzkova in the third round, Gauf will close against another check opponent.

Third seeded Jessica Pegula won six of her last seven matches to win 6-3, 7-6 (3) at N. Li.

“It was a very difficult match today,” said Pegula. “Ann is playing some very good tennis this year and had a lot of close matches with good players. It was difficult with the wind. She was doing a lot of slices, earning me a lot of points.

“I felt that it was a very physical match, there were too long points and long games. But happy I was definitely able to hold it on that second set.”

Peguula asked to face the 2023 Wimbledon Champion, Market Wondrasova, who won 6–0, 4-6, 6-3 over Poland’s No. 25 Magdelena Freach.

In addition, on Thursday, Russia’s sixth seed Mirra Andreva, seventh seed Madison Keys and Russia’s 20th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova directly won the victory.

Andreva tied the win of 6-3, 6-4 over Ashlin Krugger, the keys hovering for a 6–1, 6-3 victory over the Great Britain’s Katie Baulter and Akexandrova and won 6–1, 6-3 over the Italian Elisabetta Cosecato.

Spain’s tenth seed Paula Badosa won 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 over Romanian Elena-Gabrela Ruge.
