Ruki Cam Smith clubed a pair of domestic runs as Houston Astro on Friday visited San Diego Padress 6-4 in a three-game interlayer series opener.
Smith recorded his second and third career homes and recorded the first multi-home run game for Astro in this season. Both came against the left-handed Kail Heart (2–1) of the padress and responded to a single run by Padress in the second and fourth innings.
Tyler Wade took the padress a 1-0 lead with his run-scoring fielder’s choice grounder at the top of the other, Smith followed a two-out double with a 403-foot explosion from Jake Mayors, scoring Mayors and Yoner Diaz in the Left-Center, which reached a single. Smith recorded a 0-1 fastball drill of 107.8 mph and registered a exhaust velocity.
Diaz extended Houston’s lead 4–1 in the third with his two-out RBI single, scoring the Christian walker. With one in the fourth, Smith hit again, deposited 3–2 changes from the heart to the left area seats for the benefit of 5–2.
Hart conceded five runs on 10 hits with two strikes in five innings. Padress taxed the Astro Right-Handing Ryan Guvsto (2–1) in a similar way, but could not take a decisive blow against him.
Gusto allowed nine hits in five innings, recording a pair of strikeouts. However, he did not run a batsman and trapped Basarner in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Oscar Gonzalaz was caught between the third base and home plate to conclude the second innings, and Gusto inspired a double-play grounder from Manie Machao to sniff a possible danger in the fifth.
Padress launched a rally against the Astro Reliler Brian King in the seventh, in which Louis Arrez drilled the first pitch fastball for his third domestic run. Arraz ran the house Fernando Tatis Junior, who worked an-out walk, and cut the deficit to 5–4. This allowed the king in 91/3 innings this season with his first earned run.
Mayors (3 -for -4) gave an RBI single, which scored Jeremy Pena in the eighth. Josh Hader recorded his fifth save with an ideal ninth.
