Toronto Blue Jais entered the game in the middle of his three-game series against visiting Arizona Diamondback with a big question at the outfield on Wednesday night.
Who will put John Schneider in his lineup card?
He lost two centers to hurt the fielders during a 5–4 victory on Tuesday night in the series opener. Toronto, entering the final innings below 4-3, received a single home run from Bo Bitch to tie the game with one, and Edison Barsan immediately chased with a walk-off shot.
Blue Jais already has everyday center fielder Dolton Varsho who is in the injured list. Nathan Luks and Anthony Santnder are two other injured outfielders.
“This is not an ideal world,” said Schneider. “But I only give people so much to go there and compete. Swinging in the ninth was very big.”
Jonatan Class started the center field for Blue Jais on Tuesday, but left the game after the knee force after being hit by the pitch in the fourth innings. Miles Straw replaced him, but when he was trying to do a drama in the following innings in Josh Nayler’s RBI double, he faced a right ankle.
Alan Roden replaced Straw and later left for a pinch of hitter, so Will Robertson ended as a fielder of the fourth center area of Toronto.
“A lot was going on,” the schider said. “I did not really have the center of playing Robertson on my Bingo card. It is good that we have people who can be versatile and jump a little bit.”
It is not certain that the time straw and class can miss how much playing.
Blue Jais will go to win the series with Scheduled Starter with Left-Hand Eric Lawyer (2–1, 2.37 ERA) on Wednesday. It is 3-4 with 2.44 ERA in nine careers, which begins against Diamondback, but has not been faced since 2022.
Arizona is expected to compete with Eduardo Rodriguez (2-3, 6.27). The left-handed batsman with 4.97 ERA in 18 Games (starting with 17) against Toronto is 5-6.
Diamondback scratched Catcher Gabriel Moreno (right hand) from the lineup just before Tuesday’s game, but he is expected to return on Wednesday. Hand has been a recent issue.
Diamondback, coming from homestand 5–1, was on a win to start his nine-market trip with a win on Wednesday.
However, Blue Jais took advantage of the two poorly-located splitters for those ninth-inning home runs from Shelby Miller to get the victory out.
“Shelby made a pair of bad pitches,” said Arizona’s manager Tori Lovullo. “It was one of those days. He will get the ball tomorrow.”
Diamondback is in Wednesday’s game. 500 (36-36) and fourth in the rugged National League West. They are in the mixture in the wild-card race, and there is a chance to take the ground on this trip. After leaving Toronto, they will stay against Colorado Rockies and Chicago White Socks, teams with two worst records in the major league.
Toronto on Tuesday made a hurry of tricks. The left-arm Justin Bruhl and the right-handed Paxon Shults were promoted to Triple-e Buffalo. The right-arm Boden Francis (right shoulder impulse) was placed on a 15-day IL, and the right-handed Eric Swansan was nominated for assignment.
