The Big 12 Commissioner Brett Earmaker on Friday doubled his support for the 5+11 model for the college football playoffs, despite another proposed model that will guarantee his conference two playoff spots.

The 5+11 model will give the highest rank conference champion five automated spots, with 11 AT-big berths based on the ranking of the committee. Yormark presented this model when Power 4 Commissioners recently met in Charlotte, NC

“I think the real speed for 5+11,” said at the conclusion of the Big 12 spring meetings. “Certainly, the public is voting yes for this, which I think is seriously important. Yes, Big Ten, SEC is leading the discussions, but with leading the discussions, they have a big responsibility that goes with it, which is right for college football and not to do anything that benefits only two conferences.

“I have a lot of confidence in this process, and I think we will land at the right place.”

Last year, when a new six -year CFP deal was announced, Big Ten and SEC were placed as in -charge of the format of 2026 and beyond the playoffs.

Another model, which ACC and Big 12 oppose, will include four automatic qualifiers for both SEC and Big Ten, two for Big 12 and one for ACC and 6 team’s top groups.

Asked why he would oppose that model, Yormark said: “In talking to our advertisements and coaches, we want to earn it on the field.

“5+11 may not be ideal for conference, but this is good for college football, and this is appropriate. We do not want any gims. We want to earn it on the field … and I feel very comfortable with it.”
