As Virat Kohli finished his test career, he goes down into history as a batsman, a captain who did all that he could uplift the reputation of the oldest format of the game. Under Kohli’s captaincy, India, especially under foreign circumstances, achieved some never seen milestones. Kohli’s test records speak for themselves, but many people do not know about the sacrifices made at the stages of his career. While no one is denying that the number of Kohli has been immersed as a batsman in the last few years, there is a very selfless motive behind it.
Former Australia captain Aaron Finch, in a chat on Jio Star, told how Kohli gave his team a better chance to win, even though such a strategy came to the cost of his own performance with the bat.
“What really stands up for me about Virat’s leadership is that you can now see his numbers and say that he is not as good five years ago. But he was playing on some wickets in India who were very spinning since first day. It was about putting his own ego aside to say this, ‘What is now to win a Test match against this protest?” Finch said.
“They could roll some flat wickets and said, ‘I am going to cash on my own run and ensure that my record is piled up with great people of some time, but they put their own ego aside and said,’ I want my team what is the best for my team to win this match,” Finch said.
Former India coach Ravi Shastri, who was also part of the discussion on the match day of Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2025, “Great point, and it seems better, and it looks better.”
